#1 La Farola

A great Spanish restaurant right on Upper Street. Pretty authentic Spanish food that’s really tasty! Good atmosphere with music, outdoor seating, and good drinks

#2 Noci

Brand-new fresh pasta restaurant in Islington Green, just off Upper Street. It has a limited menu, but some very inventive dishes (silk handkerchiefs with confit egg yolk and asparagus), and some well-executed classics (Ragu with Monk Head's Cheese). It's on the pricier side, however - portions are small so you should be ordering at least three pasta dishes between two. Pair that with some Arancini to start and a couple of classic Italian cocktails and you are looking at around £40 each.

#3 Tofu Vegan

All-Vegan Chinese restaurant right on Upper Street. Serving fake-meat dishes, dim sum and regular dishes that are already vegan. Everything is absolutely delicious, and the fake meat is so good that even meat-eaters like myself are not left disappointed. Make sure to book though! Even a year after opening it is still full every night.

#4 Zen Mondo

Classic Japanese eatery which doubles up as a ceramics workshop. It's not one of these trendy, mood lit, music-filled venues, but instead a traditional family-run authentic venue. It's small, with only a few tables, but the food is delicious. All the sushi is very fresh, and the Udon is delicious. If you fancy eating something different to your usual order, try the Sukiyaki (Japanese hot pot). You won't regret it!

#6 Sushi Show

Honestly some of the best sushi in town. Simple, authentic, and delicious! They have some hot dishes as well - the Gyudon is particularly delicious, and the £4 Udon is amazing value for money. It only has two tables, so more of a take out place.

#7 Afghan Kitchen

An Angel staple. Very simple menu, with around eight dishes. The venue is just as small, with only a few 'communal' tables (probably not the best for an intimate date). Best to come as a group and share all the different dishes. The menu mostly consists of hearty stews, subtle rather than spicy. Definitely try the fish stew, and make sure to get the bread! Ideally book, but if you call a few hours ahead, there should be some space.

#8 Stef’s @ Oregano

Casual traditional Italian restaurant. More on the authentic side, so none of that stodgy, full of cream, pasta. They are more known for their pizza, but the pasta there is my favourite. The pasta alla Pucini (seared steak strips and truffle) is delectable, and the Vongole is also top-notch.

#9 Masigo

Casual Korean restaurant on Chapel Market. Traditional Korean dishes like Army Stew, Bulgogi, KFC, Bibimbap, etc. My favourite starter is the Gimmari (deep-fried seaweed rolls filled with noodles), make sure to try that!
