Best Books of 2022
#1 The Secret History 📚
Definitely late to the party on this one, but this book introduced me to dark academia and I am OBSESSED. Layered, well-written, and atmospheric, this is the best mystery I read this year and has let me venture more into the genre 💫

#2 My Year of Rest and Relaxation 💤
I inhaled this book - I found it hilarious, sardonic, and thoroughly enjoyable. Ottesa’s smoky, whip-smart writing and character building is worth picking this book up for alone, will definitely be reading more of her this year.

#3 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo 💚
A brilliant, fast paced historical fiction based on Old Hollywood star Evelyn Hugo, this book was easy to read and so emotional. Definitely unexpected as well - a very innocuous read worth picking up.

#4 Detransition Baby 💖
This is one of the first books I picked up this year, and I loved it. A witty, raw and unputdownable piece of queer fiction, you fall in love with the corporeal yet cerebral nature of this book with the first page. Big love!

#5 10:04 ✨
This book is not for everyone. Recommended by the book owner in a bookstore in Dalston, I’ve never been drawn to a book by the simple drawling, musing and stream of consciousness nature of its writing. Not much happens in this book, but it doesn’t matter, but critics have cited that the writing is a bit indulgent so heed that when choosing this!

#6 Heartstopper Series 💏
After I read this I couldn’t stop talking about it to everyone. Maybe a bit juvenile, but this queer graphic novel series warmed my heart with a sense of innocence and nostalgia that I haven’t felt through any form of media consumption in a while. I read this while watching the Netflix series, both of which I love in equal parts.

#7 If We Were Villains ♣️
Another dark academia staple, I loved this book through and through. Twisty, well-paced and comparable to a more consumeable Secret History, definitely pick this up if you love the genre!
