My try at a YouTube trend of buying a cheap electric guitar from amazon, something under $200, then upgrading it yourself, normally around $300-$600 of upgrades.

#1 Cheap Guitar “Starter Kit”
Don’t get me wrong, starter kits are great for beginners and, ya know starters. But I think you should only get it if you already understand that if you do like it and want to invest your time in it more, then you should invest your money too.
